Not Enough Time

Everywhere we go, there just isn't enough time to appreciate all that we want
Today, we started off with Tiananmen Square. There were thousands of people here. We wandered around a bit and a young guy stared at us as we passed. He finally said "hello" and he started asking us several questions like where we were from, how long we had been in Beijing, where we were going next, ect. His English was the best we've heard yet so we're assuming he was wanting to practice the language. Many people from the countryside come here and to the Forbidden City to visit and for some, we may be the first foreigners they've ever seen. We got a lot of stares. It doesn't feel uncomfortable or rude, but more like they are fascinated by us.

This is the picture Jen wanted the most. It's the count-down clock for the opening ceremonies. We only had 10 minutes to wander so we were running across the Square to get to it and had to cut our conversation short with the gentleman who was practicing his English.

On the north side of the Square is the entrance to The Forbidden City, which is where the emperors lived when they were in power. After visiting, I've decide I want to be an emperor someday.

Another entertaining moment happened while we were standing, waiting for the rest of our group to catch up. A couple older ladies came up to Jen and I and motioned they wanted to take our picture. While one took the picture, the other would stand with us. This led to more people wanting pictures. We ended up with about 6 or 7 pictures taken of us with various people jumping in and out of the frame with us. When they finished, an older man shook our hands and they all thanked us. So now were celebrities in China!

The last stop of the day was just another trip to the Great Wall. Ho-Hum. You know, you've seen one wall, you've see them all. This is the Badaling section, which is different from where we were the other day. It seemed a little more touristy than where we were the other day, but hey, it's still the Great Wall for cryin' out loud!

MAN THE WALLS!! THE MONGOLIANS ARE COMING!!!

We fly to Chongqing bright and early in the morning so it's time to get some sleep. Nothing is planned for tomorrow when we arrive, but you never know what we'll dig up. Until then,
Matt and Jenny

That is so funny that they wanted to take your picture. You should have dyed your hair blonde, then you'd really get some stares! I remember when I worked at Disney some of the foreigners would want to take my picture also.

Love you guys!
